    Re. The Band Perry–I think the big problem is that Kimberly Perry herself, while she may be (and, in my opinion, IS) quite good at sounding traditionalist (as she does on “If I Die Young” or her take on “Gentle On My Mind”, which was bluegrass-influenced to begin with), just isn’t that strong a rock vocalist; and the band sounds like a typical country act doing 80s arena rock, as opposed to the rustic, bluegrass-based one they started out being. If Kimberly really wanted to do both country AND rock properly, she probably ought to try putting on one of Linda Ronstadt’s classic 1970s albums for some pointers (since three generations of female country and rock singers before her have).
