Country jam band leader Zac Brown was possibly seen chowing down at a Columbus area soup kitchen on Monday, report several eyewitnesses.
“It was definitely him,” said frequent diner Bo Morton. “He was having the fried chicken.”
“Knowing Zeke is a chef, I thought maybe he was here to cook or something, but he just came in, ate, and left,” added a man calling himself T-Diddy. “He kept to himself the whole time, which is exactly what you’d do if you were a celebrity trying not to draw attention to yourself. Or a crazy person eating at a soup kitchen, ha.”
“I don’t remember seeing him specifically,” offered kitchen volunteer Jennifer Delaney upon being shown a picture of the “Colder Weather” singer. “But come to think of it, there was a whole row of tables of guys who could have been him. Skull caps and tattered sportcoats are pretty common here, and about half of the guys who come in have a guitar on their back. So you never know.”
Mention of a bushy beard, facial mole, and preference for the music of Bob Marley didn’t help jog her memory.
Brown’s appearance at the Columbus soup kitchen is disputed by at least one person: an Arkansas radio personality who claims to have seen the singer in Little Rock on Monday.
“I’m, like, 80 percent sure I saw Zac on the corner of 16th and Jefferson in Little Rock that same afternoon,” reports DJ Drake Douglas. “But it could also have been that guy who’s usually over on 3rd trying to squeegee windshields using his pet squirrel. At a certain point, it gets hard to tell all these people apart.”
This isn’t the Columbus soup kitchen’s first brush with celebrity. There have been unverified sightings of Drew Kennedy, Kristian Bush, and David Allan Coe at the same site within the past month.
