I especially like the fact that the members got to write and sing their own compositions on the album, sort of like a honky tonkers night at The Bluebird Cafe. I'd rather listen to these experienced and grizzled old timers than almost anything coming out of mainstream Nashville these days. The vocals aren't really polished, but the singing is always heartfelt and sincere. I'll take substance over slickness any day of the week. No one will ever ask if Heybale's music is really "country"... PS - The self-titled debut from the Tejas Brothers is another fine album I discovered through The 9513. Well except for the outrageous "hidden track" titled "Mangina". That lyric about "just two balls and a seam" is a bit much!
