Anyone who's ever written a review is bound to be guilty of several of the items CMW listed, Chris.

This is a really fascinating and informative piece. Dead-on too. It will certainly be a vantage point to return to as a sort of checklist for us newbies to review-writing. Consider this part of your community service for us country bloggers.

I'm probably guilty of some of those sometimes. xD

I love to review stuff though, if you can't tell.

Wow, you've completely lost me with this one....(lol) The thing that I value most in reviews are actually the numerical or letter grades given by reviewers who's judgement I trust. On a five point scale its typically only albums that rate four points or more that really attract my attention. I own hundreds of country music CDs and I have no interest in adding any additional "average" or even "above average" albums to my collection. I'm looking for the unique and exceptional and high ratings are a tip off to such albums and this motivates me to pay closer attention to the review.

As far as the actual style of the review, I say the more varied elements the better! Its when reviews stick to one of the standard "types" that they quickly become boring. I'm still waiting for reviews in the form of beat poetry, a short story, stream of consciousness, or song lyrics.....
