The only country music I like is Johnny Horton and (old) Johnny Cash (I also love Flatt & Scruggs, but that's actually Bluegrass; I'm not certain whether Country music fans consider Bluegrass part of their larger genre). Most country music these days seems to consist of soft rock/pop tunes sung by underwear models in a (fake?) Southern accent. Lovely ladies, to be sure, but basically dreck, musically. People who are employed as rock music critics likely have very specific tastes (as do most people who, as I used to, take a deep interest in popular music), and thus can't hep but take note of the fact that most of the stuff actually being put out in any given year is utter bilge.
