This is definitely a fun cd. I bought it 2 or 3 years ago on a whim because I got a kick out of their video "It Almost Never Rains in Southern California", which I saw on CMT 8 or 9 years ago, and I've always liked the line "close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades". I first heard that expression over 40 years ago. Wonder who coined it? Maybe it goes back to World War I. I also liked the lyric in H&H about the guy chatting up a babe in a bar who writes what he thought was her phone number on a coaster but "seems the number she gave belonged to a guy named Dave". Another favorite of mine on the cd is "She Knows What to Do (With a Saturday Night)". Enjoyed the "Really Never Loved Her Anyway" video which I had never seen before.Thanks.

Glad you finally got around to it, Leeann. I know how that goes. Your revival of this thread reminded me that I still need to check out some of the band's other work; I got so caught up in this album that I haven't taken the time to dig any deeper yet. Must remedy that soon.

I bought this album when my emusic downloads refreshed, as I said I would, but hadn't gotten around to really listening to it until tonight. I love it! It's unreasonably fun and your descriptions were perfect. I can't believe it took me this long to actually pay attention to it. That's the downfall of being an obsessive music purchaser, I guess.

[...] Country California’s C.M Wilcox was struck by Horseshoes and Hand Grenades — the 2006 album from Trent Summar & The New Row Mob. Wilcox notes that the album consists of a winning combination of radio-ready tunes, cornpone tracks that fall on the fun side of novelty and a manic, yet brilliant, cover of George Jone’s “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” [...]
