Songs About Not Crying (Playlist)

I was toying with the idea of doing a crying songs playlist, but it turns out that such a list would include about half of all the country songs ever written. So, instead I elected to compile a list of songs about not crying. It includes songs about people who don’t cry, people who won’t admit to crying, people who tell other people not to cry, people who comment on how other people aren’t crying, and on and on. The parameters are pretty loose, so feel free to make your own additions in the Comments section.

  • Baby’s Gotten Good at Goodbye – George Strait
  • Busy Not Crying – Robbie Fulks
  • Cowgirls Don’t Cry – Brooks & Dunn
  • Doesn’t Anyone Hurt Anymore – Travis Tritt
  • Don’t Cry Darlin’ – David Allan Coe
  • Emotionless – Angela Hacker
  • Honky Tonkers Don’t Cry – Dale Watson
  • I Can’t Make Her Cry Anymore – John Anderson
  • I Don’t Hurt Anymore – Hank Snow
  • I’m Not Gonna Cry For You – The Mavericks
  • Mama Don’t Cry – Julie Roberts
  • No Time to Cry – Iris Dement / Merle Haggard / Joe Nichols
  • No Use Crying – George Jones
  • Painless – Lee Ann Womack
  • She Never Cried in Front of Me – Toby Keith
  • She Never Makes Me Cry – Vince Gill
  • She’s Not Cryin’ Anymore – Billy Ray Cyrus
  • There’ll Be No Teardrops Tonight – Hank Williams

  3. Nice list. The George Strait tune immediately popped to my head, but seeing as though you have that one I had to resort to the search feature in iTunes:

She Don’t Make Me Cry – David Rogers
Baby Don’t Cry – David Rogers
I’ll Never Cry Over You – Ernest Tubb
Why Should I Cry – Hank Williams
    Don’t Cry a Tear – Lyle Lovett

  4. "No Woman, No Cry," Bob Marley & the Wailers

Tim & Faith have covered it in concert, Jimmy Buffett put it on a live album, and you'd imagine that Kenny Chesney will record it at some point. I figured if the 'non-crying' song definition was flexible, the 'country' definition could also be. ;)

"Cry," Angie Aparo (made famous by Faith Hill)

  5. One that I think should be included is “Keep You” by Sugarland, it’s all about being numb and the narrator says “Now I can’t laugh, can’t cry…” It definitely fits the theme.

Great list though, “Painless” is one of my favorite LAW songs.

  6. nice list … but you left off ‘Don’t Cry Joni’ from Conway Twitty’s catalog.

  7. It’s not country, but I’m a big fan of “I’m Not Crying” by Flight of the Conchords.

“I’m not weeping because you won’t be here to hold my hand
For your information there’s an inflammation in my tear gland
I’m not upset because you left me this way
My eyes are just a little sweaty today”

  8. Oh, I thought of another one … ‘I Won’t Cry (For You)’ by Sugarland.

  9. Thanks for all the great additions thus far.

“I’m Not Crying” sure reads like a country song.

I knew Chris D. would have something to say about the LAW pick. ;)

  10. Hey, I should have said something about the Vince pick… Oops.
