Rich’s Answer to Snider: Freedom Homo

John Rich has announced that he will release a political EP titled Freedom Homo to coincide with tomorrow’s presidential inauguration. The eight-song collection, which will be available for free from the singer’s website through Saturday, is apparently a response to an earlier EP released by Big Kenny comrade Todd Snider. The gonzo title track, featuring additional vocals from Cowboy Troy and Gone Country 3 contestant George Clinton, is already rankling pundits on both sides of the political aisle with lyrics like “I’m a freedom homo / Got that democratic mojo / I’m a bad mammajamma with a farmer’s tan / And Johnny Cash thinks I’m the man.” Other songs on the EP include a cover of Charlie Daniels’ blustery “This Ain’t No Rag, It’s a Flag,” which Rich reworks as a moody, operatic power ballad, and an acoustic version of a song titled “The Man” about how Japanese people suck. After Saturday, the price of the EP will reportedly skyrocket to the heights of Rich’s ego.
