Speaking honestly about award show stuff or whatever is fine by me, but Rascal Flatts need to get over it already. I would think that after six straight years of winning a particular award, you wouldn’t need constant validation from the industry anymore.

I used to feel a little defensive of Flippo back when Hollerin’ Ben was making his case against him, but I can’t say that I like him much anymore these days. At this point, I feel the way Pen Name Pete does.

I think what Bonaguro meant to say is:

Like the way you joke when a kid plays the last 30 seconds in a seventh grade basketball game you just lost 71-26 and you say, “Maybe you’ll be in the NBA.” Or when a fifth grader gets a non-speaking role in the school play and people say, “You might end up on Broadway.”

Don’t get me wrong, I like Swift, but I feel those are more apt comparisons here.

It keeps getting harder and harder to take Flippo seriously. I still have great respect for his wealth of historical knowledge, but I’ve started wondering how much of it is riddled with the kinds of weird misperceptions and biases he displays in tackling today’s music. Plus he seems to resent bloggers (“sissies on internet sites” was the term used in talking about the Miranda Lambert hype, which he inaccurately attributed to surrounding “Kerosene” rather than Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), even though that’s pretty much what he does with the Nashville Skyline column.
