Country California

Country music. Seriously.

On the Spot

Hey, you! You probably thought you were just coming here to read, but you waltzed right into my trap. Now, I’m challenging you to answer this question:

What’s the last song and/or album you heard?

If you’re going to respond at all, you have to do it right now. If you read this now and come back to answer later, you might be arranging your listening habits in the most favorable light. The point of this little experiment is that I want an honest answer about what you were listening to before you had any idea that you’d be asked to own up to it, much less publish it on the internet for all the world to see.

So, are you up for the challenge?

  1. Great idea! Well I was watching the Pam Tillis DVD “Live at the Renaissance Center” and, more specifically, her hit “Do You Know Where Your Man Is”.

  2. “Murder by Mistletoe” from the Felice Brothers self titled 2008 release.

  3. Johnny Cash’s “The Ballad of a Teenage Queen.” Last.fm is my alibi.

  4. I bought Red Sovine’s “Phantom 309″ on iTunes and played it for my boys last night…

  5. “No Reins” – Rascal Flatts

Damn it, I was just listening to some respectable music, why did I have to come here now?

  6. “Just Because It’s Christmas” – The Gougers (due to a post at the 9513)

  7. Trisha Yearwood, “They Call It Falling For A reason.” I had to listen to it for a Country Universe deadline.

  8. I was just listening to an indie CD called Coutry Girl Like Me by a girl called Emily Portman which I just picked up. Mostly it’s not terribly memorable, but there’s one great song on it, One Of Us Is Lying (written by Richard Leigh and Bobby Fischer).

  9. The super 80’s synthtastic Willie and Merle version of Pancho and Lefty, from a generic Willie Duet’s collection.

  10. I am listening to Sugarland’s Love On The Inside album, and the song just switched to ‘Wishing’.

  11. “Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning” from Willie’s Always On My Mind

  12. “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” by Kathy Mattea just finished and “House Carpenter” by Nickel Creek just started.

    Rainbow!!! WHY?!?!

  13. Reba’s “Read My Mind” cd was on in my car on the way home from work

  14. I obviously can’t do a sneak attack on myself, but I was listening to Bruce Robison’s new hits collection when I wrote the post.

Anyway, it’s interesting to get a sense of what people are listening to. I’ll probably make this a semi-regular feature, appearing from time to time when you least expect it. So, you know… watch yourself. And maybe only listen to Rascal Flatts in the middle of the night or something.

  15. Dierks Bentley “Long Trip Alone”

  16. “Falling Into You” by Whiskey Falls

  17. Alan Jackson, “Too Much of a Good Thing.” On Rhapsody. I never listened through this album, and Alan Jackson has a nice way of calming me down when I’m stressed about exams and whatnot.

  18. If You Ever Went Away by John Michael Montgomery / I’ve Got A Tiger By The Tail – Buck Owens

switched as I read the comments.

    Jordan Stacey

  19. Sarah Buxton, “Space”.

  20. Don Williams
    “Good Ole Boys Like Me”

  21. Last song was “Christmas Cookies” by George Strait.

  22. “Starship Trooper” by Yes. There goes my hard-earned country credibility!

  23. According to last.fm, “O Holy Night” by Carrie Underwood.

  24. Dave Alvin – California Snow

    :)

And no: I did not manipulate this!

  25. Something by the Dixie Chicks — I was in the kitchen making christmas cookies and my ipod was on shuffle….

  26. O.K. looks like the last play on my iPod/iTunes was: Alison Krauss’s “Simple Love”.

Whew…at least it was a good song lol.

  27. An episode of the Sound Opinions podcast with Indigo Girl Amy Ray as the special guest

  28. Jason Aldean, “Why”

In the car on the way home.
