Sounds like an awesome show. I got to see Haggard a couple years back, but as you noted in your review when he has a full band he is so polished and he has done all of his songs so man times that they lose something. It sounds like you got to see these legends in such an informal setting that you probably got a better glimpse of who they each really are when they aren't "on."

Sounds like a great show. I really enjoyed reading this review.

Haggard is on my list of people to see in the next year or so. Also Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, and George Jones (one more time). I've seen Jones about 4 times now, but I haven't gotten to see Loretta or Willie or Merle.

Then again, do you have an idea of how Haggard reacted at the time of Kristofferson’s jabs?

It's hard to know if he was even aware of Kristofferson's version back then. The original was such a phenomenon that it spawned lots of covers (some straight, some ironical from left-leaning acts) right off the bat, so Kristofferson's particular response might have gotten lost in the shuffle. The Philharmonic recording I referred to didn't become commercially available until 1992.

I am utterly jealous, I tell ya! Sounds like one heck of a concert.

I wish I could have been there for all of it, but especially the "Oakie" duet. In a digression of my own, perhaps Toby Keith should take a note from Haggard on how to handle someone who criticizes his songwriting (I'm referring to his reaction to Emily Robison's criticism of "Courtesy".). Then again, do you have an idea of how Haggard reacted at the time of Kristofferson's jabs?
