RCA Nashville has announced that label artist Chuck Wicks will provide the theme song for a new My Little Pony movie to be released on Paramount Pictures later this year.
“With My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie’s Special Day 2 due for straight-to-DVD release in June, we were getting nervous because we didn’t have a theme song picked out yet,” said film producer Bob Brasko. “Honestly, we weren’t sure what we were going to do. Then I heard my daughter listening to some songs by this guy, Chuck Wicks, and it clicked: his soft, sweet voice would be the perfect complement to Pinkie Pie’s exciting journey. We contacted Chuck and he got started right away.”
It was an easy project for Wicks, who was already in the studio working on his sophomore album when he got the call.
“It worked out great,” said Wicks, calling from a spa day in South Carolina. “Actually, we didn’t even have to write anything new for them. Quite a few of the songs we had been tracking fit the bill pretty well, so we just chose one and tweaked it a little to be more about Pinkie Pie, based on what we knew from seeing the first Pinkie Pie’s Special Day.”
The result is “Journey to Gumdrop Canyon,” a track Wicks says fits the film perfectly.
“They sent me an early cut of the movie and it looks just great. There’s this one part where Pinkie Pie thinks that everyone has forgotten her special day, but then – I don’t want to give too much away here – her friends surprise her with this big party, and all the ponies are dancing and stuff. It was really touching, and made me think about how important the bonds of friendship are in life. Oh, and it was nice to hear my music in there, as well.”
My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie’s Special Day 2 will be available on DVD starting June 22.
