6/25: Winners chosen. Chad and Blake, you’ve got mail.
Lucky reader CJ just won a copy of Do Wrong Right, the new album from The Devil Makes Three. Congratulations!
Now we’re sliding right into our next giveaway, which comes courtesy of Charlie Robison and the good people at Dualtone Records. We have two autographed copies of Robison’s new album Beautiful Day, which hits shelves on Tuesday.
The disc, which sees Robison adopting more of a personal tone in the wake of his divorce from Dixie Chick Emily Robison (Erwin), has been earning strong reviews ahead of its release. The 9513’s Jim Malec called it “both Charlie’s most inspired disc and his most listenable, an album that beautifully balances hooky rhythms and crisp production with his typically razor-sharp lyrics.” And The 9513’s Jim Malec is very often right.
To enter the drawing, simply comment with (a) your favorite Charlie Robison song or (b) an impressive multisyllabic word. One option for Robison fans, one for people who want to check him out for the first time. Comments will be accepted through Wednesday. Two winners will be announced and contacted on Thursday. On Friday, everyone will take a nap to recover from all the mayhem.
If you want to improve your odds, you can also enter the giveaway going on at The 9513. I’m pretty sure that my autographed copies are better than theirs, but any sort of autographed copy beats nothing.
It has been fun pulling together this series of giveaways for Country California’s first anniversary celebration. We’re five giveaways in with one left to go, and the last one is a biggie with a bunch of different items and a bunch of different winners. It’ll be going up sometime within the next week, so don’t go anywhere. Unless you have to work or eat or go to the bathroom or something, in which case go ahead. Just be sure to come back. If you haven’t won anything yet, there’s still plenty of opportunity to do so.

defenistration. Not so impressive in the number of syllables, but an impressive definition all the same: “The act of throwing something or someone out a window.”
Trailer says
Okay, I’ll be shameless. I really want an autographed copy. “Loving County” is my favorite Charlie Robison song.
J.R. Journey says
Okay, here’s my multisyllabic word: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, as sang by Julie Andres and Dick Van Dyke.
And my favorite Robison song is ‘Blame It On Me’, though that could change if I won this album.
J.R. Journey says
I confused my Robisons. Bruce Robison wrote ‘Blame It On Me’.
Andrew says
I love El Cerrito Place.
Sabrina5000 says
Well Bummer roo. I never took the time to listen to Charlie Robison so I can’t name a favorite song. I’m sure he’s a great singer as being from Texas how could he not be.I’ll have to listen to some of his songs..I renember hearing about him being married to one of the Dixie Chicks and I was sorry to hear they later divorced.
C.M. Wilcox says
I’ll count Bummerroo as your impressive multisyllabic word. You’re in the drawing.
Chad says
Being from TX originally, one of my fave Charlie songs is “My Hometown”
Chris D. says
Does glockenspiel count?
Annie says
I’ll go with “New Year’s Day” as my favorite. But, there are so many songs of his that I love – it’s hard to choose just one!
Mike K says
I already bought the CD, so I don’t need to be entered. My favorite song is probably Sunset Boulevard or maybe Rain. I really enjoyed the new CD and think that it is pretty solid from top to bottom. He even pulled off the Springstein cover, which I probably wouldn’t have believed if you told me a week ago.
Mike Wimmer says
My favorite Charlie Robison song is El Cerrito Place. He breathes so much sadness and desperation into the lyrics it’s unreal.
Bryan says
Good Times was my all-time favorite song, but it was hard to choose among all his great songs!
Multisyllabalic word? how about philoprogenetiveness?
Leslie says
Loving County, El Cerrito Place, or My Hometown.
Jake says
Bosoms just barely makes the multisyllabic cut. Pabstblueribbon is also one of my personal favorites.
Joel W says
I’ll pick the entire Life of the Party CD as my favorite. There isn’t a bad song on it. It’s by far the best “country” cd of the 1990’s and very few people have heard of it.
I’ll pick Loving County as my favorite song.
Blake Boldt says
If you do not take “fabulosity” as my multi-syllable word, then my favorite Robison song is “Blame It On Me,” and I love Lee Ann Womack’s version as well.
Blake Boldt says
Sh*#. Bruce wrote “Blame It on Me.” I pick “My Hometown” and will now cower in the corner.
Blake Boldt says
I’m kinda fond of “Barlight,” too.
