Charlie Louvin passed away this morning from complications of pancreatic cancer. He was 83. Here's a great New York Times article from Bill Friskics-Warren. You can also revisit Juli Thanki's 2009 interview, which reveals Mr. Louvin to have been a real gentleman right into the final years of his life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5XVEUdNye0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHqCDueo7ZE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIT0Xe1qaoI … [Read more...]
A Living Prayer for Civility
Can't quite put my finger on why, but Alison Krauss seemed like an appropriate choice for today. Here's one of my absolute favorite songs to hear her perform. There's no such thing as too much of "A Living Prayer." And hey, she has a new album coming out in just a few months! RIP Gary Claxton

Stocking Stuffer: George Jones and Randy Travis Sing “Wabash Cannonball”
George Jones and Randy Travis were both in especially strong voice at the beginning of the '90s, so this lively, loving tribute to Roy Acuff from 1991 is a keeper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEbIfr9CsXQ … [Read more...]
Stocking Stuffer: Haggard Sons Do Songs Associated with George Strait

When you're a son of Merle, it just comes natural to be a fine singer as well. Curiously, the best clips I could find of the two singing Haggard boys are both performances of songs more commonly associated with George Strait. Marty Haggard does "Trains Make Me Lonesome," which appeared on Strait's 1992 album Holding My Own. Written by Thom Schuyler and Paul Overstreet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktWBKGfGlnc Noel Haggard does "Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa," probably best known … [Read more...]
