Please Don’t Buy My Album

We usually don’t hear about disagreements with labels or managers until an artist severs the troubled ties and starts talking candidly about future plans. A notable exception to the rule is Hank III, who has been very vocal about his dissatisfaction with Curb Records and much of the music he has recorded for them. Most singers are more reluctant to speak out, instead opting to conceal their unrest behind a veil of vague, publicist-approved mumbo jumbo that leaves fans guessing about what they truly think.

So, here’s the question of the day: According to your best hunch, which current recording artist is most secretly dissatisfied with his or her own recent output?

I would like to think Rascal Flatts but I’m sure all the money they’re making kinda nullifies that feeling…

    Jordan,

Rascal Flatts was also the first band that came to my mind. While they’ve certainly been tremendously successful, I wonder if they feel pigeon-holed.

Hmmm, I’m thinking it’s along the lines of a more traditional artist who is being compressed into a package to fit the younger demographics…somebody like Alan Jackson…his recent couple of radio tunes, one of which is Good Time, seem like a waste of country talent.

I’m gonna guess Blake Shelton. His music has moved more and more pop since “Barn and Grill”. The last really country sounding song he released as a single was “The More I Drink” and since then it has been pretty much pop-country.

I would guess that Rodney Atkins is feeling stuck in a rut right now, what with his attempt to change things up (”Invisibly Shaken”) being more or less flatly rejected and him falling back on the same old thing with “It’s America.” Plus the ball cap stapled to his head seems to me like the mark of someone who found an image that works (worked?) and is now afraid to mess with the formula… which is exactly what he needs to do to stay relevant, in my opinion.

I’m thinking Tim McGraw is really dissatisfied with Curb. I also think LeAnn Rimes dislikes the label, though I think she’s happy with the music she’s making.
